Green Bay, WI - Just a week after Brett Favre tied Dan Marino's record for touchdown passes, the Hall of Fame QB has another special occasion to celebrate: the birth of his grandson. On hearing the news, Favre was ecstatic, jumping in the air with a double fisted punch, and proceeding to chest bump with Donald Driver. Number 4 was understandably excited. "I'm so happy to be the first grandfather in the league," said Favre, "this day is almost as special as the first day I walked out into Lambeau field, back in the 70's."
When asked what the childs name was, Favre seemed confused. "Fame? What? Oh game? No, he hasn't been to a game yet." The happy grandpa then left for his afternoon nap.
Favre's teammates were understandably happy for their quarterback. "He deserves this," said young receiver Greg Jennings, "he's really such a great father figure for our team. I'm just excited because when he heard the news, he promised to buy us all ice cream after the game this weekend."
The good news for Favre comes in the midst of a spectacular start to the season for the Green Bay Packers. While some preseason reports had suggested that Aaron Rodgers would be a better fit for the Packers offense, this eventuality was avoided when Favre grounded Rodgers and sent him to his room. Although some have questioned the ability of the aging Favre to make it through the entire season and lead the Packers to the playoffs, others, such as presidential hopeful John Edwards, contend that age is just a number.
While the birth of his grandchild comes as mostly good news for Favre, the occasion does raise the mouthwatering prospect of seeing grandchild compete against grandfather in approximately 20 years from now. As said coach Mike McCarthy, "Even if I am dead by then, I am more than certain that Brett will be at the helm of this offense for decades to come. And if his grandson is drafted by then, it promises to be a huge matchup."
Anticipating this matchup, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has already scheduled the season opener for the year 2027 to include the Green Bay Packers. The game will be the second of a doubleheader, the first game of which will showcase Michael Vicks' return to the league as quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.
